' A giant of integrity and knowledge has fallen'; Washington reacts to the passing of Rep. Elijah Cummings
Flags at the White House, the U.S. Capitol, the White House, and in Maryland were lowered to half-staff Thursday in honor of Elijah Cummings, the Maryland Democrat who served as chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Commitee. He has been in the public eye in recent years for his vocal opposition to President Trump.
Despite the strongly partisan nature of the political atmosphere these days, reactions and tributes have been coming in from across the political spectrum today since Rep. Cummings passing earlier Thursday at age 68.
Democrats remembered Cummings as “a principled leader,” “a champion for justice” and “a giant.”
Across the aisle, Republicans are also tweeting their condolences.
