Vienna is a city built on classical music. It is a city where art comes alive in beautiful music, delicious food, and internationally renowned museums. Vienna is known as the "City of Music" because of it's rich legacy of classical music performers. Mozart, Beethoven, Schönberg, and others made their mark on the city.
But it's not all chamber music and the baroque. Vienna also has a playful appreciation for the morbid, as witnessed by their appreciation of the music of The Nightmare before Christmas.
There is a concert series called Hollywood In Vienna that takes place in the Vienna Concert Hall ( Wiener Konzerthaus ), where the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award is presented. The award is presented to extraordinary work in cinema soundtracks and in 2017 they performed the music of The Nightmare Before Christmas live to an appreciative audience. Conducted by Danny Elfman and performed by Dennis Kozeluh, Caroline Frank, Nathan Trent, Louise Dearman, Ethan Freeman, this is a masterful adaption of a Halloween classic.
