Many of us grew up with The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton's stop-motion phantasmagoria about the Halloween King trying to take over the Christmas season. The songs by longtime Burton collaborator Danny Elfman have become holiday standards for fans of the macabre. In particular, the song "Jack's Lament" has become one of the most iconic songs in the show. It spotlights the malaise that the protagonist Jack Skellington feels from being trapped in an endless boring loop of Halloween.
YouTuber Matthew Patrick Davis has brought Jack Skellington to life with this fantastic rendition of the song. Shot in a black box theater surrounded by eerie asymmetrical sets, the long-limbed performer inhabits the role beautifully.
Watch it below, and then ask why Disney hasn't created a Broadway edition of this beloved musical. If Davis's work is any indication then it would be a big success.
